Highlighting recent mission and values aligned investments by community impact investors
August 7, 1-2:30 PM ET - Many of the assets that underpin local economies, institutions, private wealth, and philanthropic endowments originated from resources stewarded by Indigenous peoples, who remain deeply connected to their ancestral homelands today. Acknowledging this legacy, some foundations have begun taking critical steps toward increasing Indigenous power and voice in how these historically rooted assets are reinvested. Yet, truly impactful change requires foundations to move beyond acknowledgment, proactively investing alongside Native-led initiatives.
This It’s Happening Here webinar will feature two New England Native CDFIs working to build housing, develop community facilities, and support Native entrepreneurs, and two place-focused foundations (one in New England and one from the Northwest) who are directly confronting their institutional histories of colonial wealth accumulation. These foundations are pioneering new investment practices designed to return resources to Indigenous communities, creating meaningful partnerships and aligning financial decisions with values of equity, reciprocity, and repair.
June 2025 - In this webinar we we heard from Flexible Capital Fund’s president, Janice St. Onge, and Vermont Community Foundation’s senior advisor for mission investments, Lawrence Miller, about how their investment partnership is supporting entrepreneurship in Northern New England and demonstrating the feasibility of innovative and non-extractive community financing tools.
