Sometimes impact entrepreneurs need debt, sometimes equity, and sometimes something else. Flexible Capital Fund provides something else--revenue based financing (RBF) to growing New England companies in food system, forest products, and clean tech sectors.  RBF loans are based on selling a piece of the revenue stream instead of selling ownership. The revenue share payments can be structured over a fixed time period or until the investor reaches the negotiated rate of return. RBF allows for flexible repayment that adjusts to a growth company’s actual revenue and offers a “natural” way to exit the deal. Vermont Community Foundation invests in entities like the Flexible Capital Fund to bring a more flexible and responsive set of financing tools to their region.
